The Kingston NV3 1TB (part number SNV3S/1000G) is a mainstream M.2 NVMe drive built around a Gen 4×4 NVMe controller and 3D NAND. It is designed for desktop and notebook workloads rather than servers, and it suits customers who want a quick, low-power primary drive for Windows, applications and a games library without paying for flagship performance. Punch can fit it as the boot drive in a new build or as a second M.2 drive for extra space.

Performance

Kingston rates the 1TB model at up to 6000MB/s sequential read and 4000MB/s sequential write when installed in a PCIe 4.0 slot. That is roughly ten times the throughput of a SATA SSD, so Windows updates, game installs and large file copies complete far more quickly. The drive is also backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 slots, where it will run at the lower speed of that interface.

Efficiency and reliability

The NV3 is a single-sided M.2 2280 design, only 2.3mm thick and 7g in weight, so it fits under motherboard M.2 heatsinks and in slim laptop slots. Its low power consumption and reduced heat output mean it does not need a dedicated heatsink for typical desktop use. Kingston rates the 1TB drive for 320TB total bytes written and quotes an MTBF of 2,000,000 hours, and covers it with a limited five-year warranty based on years or the drive’s Percentage Used figure, whichever comes first. Acronis cloning software is included for migrating an existing installation.

Compatibility

It requires a motherboard or laptop with an M.2 M-key slot that supports NVMe. A PCIe 4.0 slot is needed for full speed, but the drive works in PCIe 3.0 systems as well. It operates between 0 and 70 degrees C.
