We all know that education budgets are tight and are decreasing every year, while the cost of essential technology just goes on rising. How can schools possibly keep up with the unequal challenge of providing their students with the educational equipment they need, while remaining within budget? In the past, the only path available to schools was either to buy assets outright or to go without. If the budget didn’t allow the purchase, then the fall-back position was to rely on the uncertainty of fund-raising and the generosity of the community. Buying expensive technology means committing huge amounts of precious funds to only one area and potentially neglecting other needs. Also, with the speed of technological progress, the thought is always present that the items will require upgrading or replacing in only a few years, starting the whole cycle over again. The answer is to consider leasing, which can solve all of these issues.
What are the benefits of leasing for Education?
Financially, schools will only be committing a fraction of their annual funding to the new equipment, leaving the balance for other necessary work. Schools will be able to continuously provide state-of-the-art technology for pupils, ensuring that they receive the very best preparation for their eventual working lives in the marketplace. Leasing is available for every education level from primary schools right through to colleges and universities.
How does education leasing work?
While state schools are legally prevented from entering into financial loan or traditional hire-purchase agreements, they are permitted to benefit from certain types of rental contracts. These are facilitated through a leasing company or partner (the lessor) who will discuss with your Business Manager/Financial Director the needs of the school and build a package which suits those needs and the finances available. The lessor will then continue to administer the agreement throughout the contract period, providing ongoing support whenever required. They will also handle the disposal of the assets at the end of the lease period, ensuring that they are dealt with in compliance to government guidelines. Lease payments are usually made on an annual basis, for a fixed amount and so are easy to budget for. The school knows exactly what they are committed to, how long the agreement will be in force, what benefits it brings to them and where they stand at any given point in the process.
