Hitachi-LG GTC2N 8x Slim 12.7mm SATA DVD-RW Drive (OEM)
A slimline 12.7mm internal DVD writer for compact PCs and cases with a slim optical bay.
The GTC2N is Hitachi-LG Data Storage’s standard slim tray-loading DVD writer. It is 12.7mm high, connects via a slimline SATA connector, and reads and writes CDs and DVDs, including LG’s M-DISC archival media. It is supplied as an OEM bulk unit, so it comes as the bare drive without retail packaging or software. Small-form-factor desktops, slim office PCs and some media-centre cases use this size of bay rather than the full-height 5.25-inch slot.
Read and write speeds
The drive writes single-layer DVD+R and DVD-R at up to 8x, rewrites DVD+RW at 8x and DVD-RW at 6x, and burns CD-R at up to 24x. It reads DVD-ROM, DVD+R and DVD-R at 8x and CDs at 24x. A 0.5MB buffer with buffer-underrun protection keeps burns reliable on slower systems.
M-DISC and quiet operation
M-DISC support lets you write to archival-grade DVD media designed for very long-term storage of documents and photos. LG’s Silent Play technology lowers spin speed during playback to keep noise down when watching a film or listening to a CD.
Fitting
The GTC2N measures 127 x 12.7 x 127mm and weighs about 159g without its bezel. It needs a slim optical bay and a motherboard SATA port; a slimline SATA power and data cable or adapter is required if your case or power supply does not provide one. Punch Technology can fit it in a new build with a slim bay.
Ideal for
- Slim and small-form-factor desktop PCs
- Office machines that still need to read or burn discs
- Archiving to M-DISC media
