Why choose a dual RTX 5090 PC?
A single RTX 5090 is the fastest consumer graphics card NVIDIA makes. A dual RTX 5090 workstation doubles that: GPU renderers such as Blender Cycles, Redshift, Octane and V-Ray split each frame or each job across both cards, so renders finish in close to half the time, and AI frameworks can spread a model or a training batch across 64GB of combined graphics memory.
It is the most cost-effective way to get serious multi-GPU performance before moving to professional cards. Two RTX 5090s give you more CUDA cores than one RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell, for workloads that can use two cards.
Dual RTX 5090 at a glance
| Graphics cards | 2 x NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 |
|---|---|
| CUDA cores | 43,520 (21,760 per card) |
| Graphics memory | 64GB GDDR7 (32GB per card, 512-bit) |
| AI performance | 6,704 AI TOPS (3,352 per card) |
| Graphics power | 1,150W (575W per card) |
| System power supply | 2000W |
Per-card figures are NVIDIA reference specifications. The system power supply is what we fit in our current builds.
What is a Dual RTX 5090 workstation for?
- GPU rendering in Blender Cycles, Redshift, Octane, V-Ray GPU and Unreal Engine
- Training and fine-tuning AI models with PyTorch or TensorFlow across two GPUs
- Running large language models locally: a 70-billion-parameter model quantised to 4-bit needs around 40GB, which fits across two cards
- Simulation, CFD and scientific computing with CUDA
- Running two jobs at once, such as rendering on one card while you keep working on the other
How we build a Dual RTX 5090 workstation
Two 575W cards need a platform built for them. We use AMD Threadripper PRO processors, which provide 128 PCIe lanes, so both cards run at full x16 speed, plus up to 2TB of memory on eight channels. Desktop Ryzen and Core Ultra platforms have to split their lanes between two cards.
Cooling matters as much as power. Two air-cooled RTX 5090s side by side starve each other of air, so our dual builds pair one standard card with a liquid-cooled RTX 5090 that exhausts its heat through its own radiator. A quality 2000W 80 Plus Gold power supply with a separate 12V-2x6 cable for each card keeps everything stable under full load.
If your software only uses one GPU, look at our single RTX 5090 PCs. Need more? The Triple RTX 5090 workstation adds a third card, and the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell gives you 96GB on a single card for models that must fit in one memory pool. For rack-mounted systems see our multi-GPU servers.
Dual RTX 5090 questions
Can you game on a dual RTX 5090 PC?
Yes, but games use only one card. The RTX 5090 does not support SLI or NVLink, so a second card adds nothing in games. Buy a dual RTX 5090 PC for rendering, AI or compute work, where software uses both cards.
Do two RTX 5090s combine into 64GB of memory?
Not automatically. Each card has its own 32GB. Software that splits work across GPUs, such as GPU renderers, PyTorch and LLM tools like llama.cpp and vLLM, uses both cards and their memory together. If one job needs more than 32GB in a single memory pool, an RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell with 96GB is the better choice.
What power supply does a dual RTX 5090 workstation need?
Each RTX 5090 is rated at 575W, so the cards alone can draw 1,150W. We fit a 2000W power supply in our dual RTX 5090 workstations so there is plenty of headroom for the processor and the rest of the system.
Dual RTX 5090 or one RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell?
Two RTX 5090s give more total GPU compute for rendering and work that splits across cards. The RTX PRO 6000 has 96GB on one card, ECC memory and professional drivers, which suit very large single models and certified applications.
