ASUS ROG Strix X870-A Gaming WiFi AMD X870 AM5 ATX Motherboard
A white-themed ATX board for AMD Ryzen 9000 processors with PCIe 5.0 graphics and storage, USB4 and Wi-Fi 7 built in.
The ROG Strix X870-A Gaming WiFi is ASUS’s silver and white take on the X870 chipset, aimed at anyone building a high-end Ryzen gaming or content-creation PC who wants a light colour scheme without giving up current connectivity. It takes AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 Series processors on Socket AM5, and pairs them with four DDR5 slots, two PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots and a pair of USB4 ports on the rear panel. If you are choosing parts for a new system, Punch can fit this board as part of a custom build.
Processor, memory and expansion
Four DIMM slots take up to 256GB of DDR5 in dual channel, with ASUS quoting speeds of 8000+MT/s when overclocked and support for AMD EXPO and ASUS AEMP profiles. The main graphics slot runs at PCIe 5.0 x16 with a Ryzen 9000 or 7000 Series chip (PCIe 4.0 with Ryzen 8000 Series), and a second full-length slot from the chipset runs at PCIe 4.0 x4 for a capture card, network card or extra storage.
Storage and connectivity
There are four M.2 slots in total. The first two run at PCIe 5.0 x4 with a Ryzen 9000 or 7000 Series processor, and the other two run at PCIe 4.0 x4 from the chipset, with two SATA 6Gb/s ports for older drives. The rear panel carries twelve USB ports: two USB4 Type-C at 40Gbps with DisplayPort Alt Mode, six 10Gbps ports (five Type-A and one Type-C with 30W fast charging) and four 5Gbps Type-A. Networking is handled by Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet with ASUS LANGuard, plus Wi-Fi 7 on the 2.4, 5 and 6GHz bands and Bluetooth 5.4. HDMI and DisplayPort outputs cover the integrated graphics on Ryzen processors.
Audio and headers
Onboard sound uses the ROG SupremeFX ALC4080 codec with 120dB playback and 110dB recording signal-to-noise ratios. Internally there is a USB 20Gbps front Type-C connector, two USB 5Gbps headers and two USB 2.0 headers, which suits modern cases with a front USB-C port.
