The Core i7-14700KF is part of Intel’s 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh desktop range, built on the Intel 7 process. It combines eight Performance-cores with twelve Efficient-cores for 20 cores and 28 threads, with a 3.4GHz P-core base clock and a 5.6GHz maximum turbo. The K means it is unlocked for overclocking on a Z690 or Z790 motherboard, and the F means there is no integrated graphics, so a dedicated graphics card is required. It is aimed at enthusiast gaming PCs, streaming rigs and content creation systems.
Performance
The P-cores turbo to 5.5GHz and the E-cores to 4.3GHz, with Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0 pushing the best cores to 5.6GHz. A 33MB Intel Smart Cache and 28MB of total L2 cache support the hybrid design, and 28 threads make light work of video encoding, compiling and running many applications at once. Intel’s Thread Director helps Windows place tasks on the appropriate core type.
Platform and connectivity
The i7-14700KF fits the LGA1700 socket and works with either DDR5 at up to 5600 MT/s or DDR4 at up to 3200 MT/s depending on the motherboard, with a maximum of 192GB across two channels. It provides 20 PCIe lanes across PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 for a graphics card and Gen 4 or Gen 5 NVMe storage. Punch can fit it in a new build with a Z790 board and DDR5 memory to suit.
Cooling and noise
Intel rates the processor at 125W base power and 253W maximum turbo power, with a 100°C maximum junction temperature and a PCG 2020A thermal solution specification. No cooler is included, and a high-end air cooler or a 240mm to 360mm liquid cooler is recommended to hold turbo clocks under sustained load without excessive noise.
