A six-core Zen 4 processor that brings the AM5 platform, DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 to mainstream desktop builds.

The Ryzen 5 7400 is an entry point to AMD’s current AM5 socket. It uses the Zen 4 architecture (codename Raphael), with six cores and twelve threads running at a 3.3GHz base clock and boosting to 4.3GHz. Unlike the older Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 parts on AM4, it includes basic Radeon integrated graphics, so it can drive a display without a graphics card, which makes it a practical choice for office PCs, home computers and gaming systems that will get a dedicated card now or later.

Performance

Zen 4 cores give a clear step up in work done per clock compared with earlier Ryzen generations, and the 7400 backs them with 6MB of L2 and 16MB of L3 cache. Twelve threads handle everyday multitasking, office and web workloads comfortably, and the processor is capable in games when paired with a suitable graphics card. Precision Boost 2 adjusts clock speed automatically, and the chip is unlocked with AMD EXPO memory profiles, Precision Boost Overdrive and Curve Optimizer available on supporting boards.

Platform and connectivity

The AM5 socket is supported by the A620, B650, B650E, X670, X670E, B840, B850, X870 and X870E chipsets. Memory is dual-channel DDR5 at up to 5200 MT/s (two single-rank modules) with a maximum of 128GB, and ECC is supported where the motherboard allows it. The processor provides PCIe 5.0 with 28 lanes in total (24 usable), plus four native USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports. Punch can fit the 7400 in a new AM5 build with a matching board and DDR5 memory.

Cooling and noise

The 65W default TDP keeps heat output low, and the AMD Wraith Stealth cooler is included in the box. That is enough for stock operation at low noise; a larger tower cooler is only worth considering if you plan to push the chip harder. Maximum operating temperature is 95°C.
