The Core i3-8100 brought four full cores to the Core i3 line for the first time and is still a sensible processor for an office or family PC on an Intel 300 series motherboard. Its built-in UHD Graphics 630 means no graphics card is needed for everyday use. This is the boxed retail version, which includes Intel’s stock cooler, and it is an open-box unit: the packaging has been opened, but the processor is supplied with its cooler. It suits a low-cost build or a repair where the original processor has failed.

Cores and clocks

Four cores and four threads run at a fixed 3.6GHz; this model does not have Intel Turbo Boost, so it holds its rated clock across all cores. There is 6MB of Intel Smart Cache and the TDP is 65W, which the included cooler handles comfortably.

Platform and memory

It fits socket LGA1151 on Intel 300 series chipset boards and supports DDR4-2400 memory up to 64GB. Sixteen PCIe lanes from the processor are available for a graphics card if one is added later. Display outputs come from the motherboard via the integrated UHD Graphics 630.

Packaging
