The Core i5-10600KF belongs to Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake desktop family, built on the 14nm process. It offers six cores and twelve threads with Hyper-Threading, a 4.1GHz base clock and a 4.8GHz maximum turbo. The K in the name means the multiplier is unlocked for overclocking on a Z490 or Z590 motherboard, and the F means there is no integrated graphics, so a dedicated graphics card is required. It is a good fit for gaming PCs and general-purpose desktops built around an LGA1200 board.
Performance
Comet Lake’s strength is clock speed, and the 10600KF’s 4.1GHz base is unusually high, which keeps games and lightly threaded applications responsive. Twelve threads and 12MB of Intel Smart Cache give it enough parallel capacity for streaming, encoding and multitasking. Turbo Boost 2.0 manages boost clocks automatically, and the unlocked multiplier allows further tuning with adequate cooling.
Platform and connectivity
The processor uses the LGA1200 socket with 400 and 500 series Intel chipsets. Memory is dual-channel DDR4-2666 with a maximum of 128GB and 41.6GB/s of bandwidth, and the processor provides 16 lanes of PCIe 3.0 for the graphics card, with further lanes and NVMe connectivity coming from the chipset. Punch can fit it in a new build with a compatible LGA1200 board and cooler.
Cooling and noise
The 10600KF has a 125W TDP (configurable down to 95W), a 100°C maximum junction temperature and a PCG 2015D thermal solution specification. No cooler is supplied, so a capable tower air cooler or an all-in-one liquid cooler is needed, particularly if you intend to overclock.
