The Gigabyte B650 AORUS Elite AX V2 is the mid-range AM5 option for gamers and creators who want a full ATX layout without paying for X670. It supports the whole AM5 range from Ryzen 7000 to Ryzen 9000, with four DDR5 slots that take up to 256GB and run at up to 8000 MT/s using AMD EXPO or Intel XMP profiles. The twin 12+2+2 phase digital VRM sits under substantial heatsinks, so it copes with a Ryzen 9 under sustained load. Punch can fit it in a new build with a matched cooler and memory.
Storage and expansion
Three M.2 slots are provided: the primary CPU-fed slot supports PCIe 5.0 x4 with a Ryzen 7000 or 9000 processor, a second CPU slot runs at PCIe 4.0 x4 and a chipset slot adds another PCIe 4.0 x4. All three accept drives up to 25110 length and sit under Gigabyte’s M.2 Thermal Guard heatsinks. Four SATA 6Gb/s ports with RAID support remain for bulk storage. The main PCIe 4.0 x16 slot is reinforced and uses the EZ-Latch quick release; two further x16-length slots wired at PCIe 3.0 x1 take sound, capture or network cards.
Connectivity
The rear panel is generous: a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, two red USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, five USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and four USB 2.0 ports, plus DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 for the processor’s integrated Radeon graphics, a Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet port, two Wi-Fi antenna connectors and three audio jacks. Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.3 is fitted (Realtek RTL8852CE or Intel AX210 depending on PCB revision). Front-panel headers add a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C, two Gen 1 and four USB 2.0 ports.
Cooling and lighting
Six fan and pump headers (CPU, CPU/pump, three system, system/pump) with water-flow detection, three addressable Gen 2 RGB headers, one RGB header, a reset button and Q-Flash Plus for updating the BIOS without a CPU installed round out a board that is easy to build and maintain.
