Arctic Alpine 23 Compact AMD CPU Cooler
A low-cost, quiet replacement for the AMD stock cooler that fits AM5 and AM4 boards and most small cases.
The ARCTIC Alpine 23 is a compact radial cooler for mainstream AMD Ryzen processors. It is a similar size to the coolers AMD bundles with its chips, but with a better heatsink and a much quieter fan, so it is the usual choice when a Ryzen build needs something more pleasant than a Wraith Stealth without the bulk of a tower cooler. The extruded aluminium heatsink has 50 thin Y-shaped fins around a 32 mm core, and a 90mm fan sits on top blowing down over the socket area.
Cooling and noise
The fan is PWM controlled over a wide 100 to 2000 rpm range, which lets the motherboard hold it at a near-silent speed most of the time and only ramp it up under load. ARCTIC quotes 0.3 Sone at maximum rpm. The fluid dynamic bearing uses an alloy and lubricant combination designed to reduce friction and motor temperature, extending the fan’s life. It draws 0.06 A at 12 V and comes with MX-4 thermal paste already applied.
Compatibility
ARCTIC’s current specification lists AMD AM5 and AM4. The cooler clips to the standard AMD retention bracket, so no backplate change is needed. Its 121 x 98.6 mm footprint and 65 mm height fit most Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX cases, and it weighs only 275.5 g. This is an AMD-only cooler.
Build quality
The Alpine 23 is a simple, well-made part with a six-year limited warranty from ARCTIC. For a system that runs continuously, the Alpine 23 CO with its dual ball bearing is the better choice. Punch can fit either in a new AMD build.
