4TB Crucial T700 M.2 PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD

The Crucial T700 4TB (part number CT4000T700SSD3) is Crucial’s high-end PCIe Gen 5 x4 drive, built by Micron for gaming PCs and workstations that need both extreme speed and a large amount of space on a single drive. It suits video editors, 3D artists, engineers and enthusiasts who work with very large files and want them to load and save as quickly as the platform allows. Punch can fit it as the primary drive in a new PCIe 5.0 build under the motherboard’s M.2 heatsink.
Performance
Crucial rates the 4TB model at up to 12,400MB/s sequential read and 11,800MB/s sequential write, with random performance of up to 1,500K IOPS for reads and writes. Crucial states this is nearly twice as fast as its Gen4 SSD. The T700 supports Microsoft DirectStorage, which Crucial says renders high-resolution textures up to 60 per cent faster and can cut CPU utilisation by up to 90 per cent in supported games. It is backward compatible with PCIe 4.0 and 3.0 systems at reduced speed.
Endurance and security
The 4TB drive carries a 2400TB total bytes written rating and a five-year limited warranty or the rated endurance, whichever comes first. Hardware encryption with TCG Opal 2.01 support lets you protect data with BitLocker, and Crucial Storage Executive software provides health monitoring and firmware updates on Windows.
Cooling and compatibility
This is the version without Crucial’s own heatsink. Crucial advises that the T700 should be installed with a heatsink for optimal performance, so it is best paired with a motherboard that has an M.2 heatsink or a separate M.2 cooler, which Punch fits as standard in builds where the motherboard supports it. It requires an M-key M.2 2280 slot, with PCIe 5.0 x4 needed for full speed.
