The CS383 is SilverStone’s high-performance NAS and workstation chassis. Its front-loading drive bays accept 3.5in or 2.5in SAS or SATA drives and can be swapped without powering down, which makes it suited to home labs, small business file servers, media libraries and video-editing workstations that need a lot of fast, redundant storage in one box. Motherboard support extends to SSI-EEB and E-ATX, so dual-socket and workstation boards are an option as well as ordinary ATX.

Storage first

The hot-swap cage connects through a backplane rated for SAS-12G and SATA-6G, so it can be driven from a motherboard’s SATA ports, an HBA or a RAID card. Each bay is tool-free, which keeps drive replacement quick and tidy.

Workstation flexibility

Because the chassis is a standard tower rather than a rack unit, it accepts ordinary ATX power supplies, tower coolers and full-length graphics cards, letting one machine act as both a storage server and a capable workstation. Punch can build a complete NAS or workstation in the CS383 with drives, HBA and operating system configured to order.
