The MAG A500DN is MSI’s entry-level power supply for everyday desktops. Its 500W rating is a sensible match for a mainstream processor with a modest graphics card or integrated graphics, along with a couple of drives and a few fans. It is the kind of unit we fit in home office machines, family PCs and light gaming systems where a larger, pricier supply would go unused.

Certified and protected

The unit carries the standard 80 Plus certification, meaning efficiency of up to 80% at typical loads, and uses active power factor correction for a stable output. Over-current, over-voltage, over-power and short-circuit protection are all built in, and MSI rates it for full output at ambient temperatures up to 40°C.

Quiet cooling, tidy cables

A 120mm hydro-bearing fan keeps noise low, and the fixed cables are flat and black so they route neatly behind a motherboard tray. Two PCIe 6+2-pin connectors support a single graphics card with up to two 8-pin inputs, and five SATA connectors cover the usual mix of SSDs and hard drives.
