Intel Core i7-12700 Small Form Factor Workstation – Built in the UK
The Punch SlimStation i7-12700 Workstation is a high-performance small form factor workstation PC for demanding home office, business and education use.
This i7-12700 small form factor workstation from Punch Technology packs a 12 core, 20 thread Intel Core i7-12700 processor into the In Win CJ708 8L chassis, a black steel case just 305mm deep, 95mm wide and 290mm tall. It is aimed at home offices, small businesses and education settings where desk space is tight but the workload is not light. As a configurable PC it is built to order, so you can change the memory, storage and other parts in the configurator before you buy, and the estimated lead time for your configuration is shown when you order. If you want a compact, capable i7-12700 small form factor workstation that sits on a shelf or beside a monitor, this is the machine for the job.
The Punch SlimStation i7-12700 Workstation is built on an Intel Core i7-12700 processor with 12 cores and 20 threads, running at 2.1GHz base and up to 4.9GHz turbo, with Intel integrated graphics. It has 16GB of DDR4 3200MHz memory in two 8GB modules, a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, a Gigabyte H610M-S2H V3 motherboard and genuine, pre-installed Microsoft Windows 11 Home. It comes with a 3-year parts and labour warranty.
A 12 core processor for serious multitasking
The Intel Core i7-12700 is a 12th Generation LGA1700 processor with 12 cores, 20 threads and 25MB of L3 cache. Its base clock is 2.1GHz and it boosts to 4.9GHz when the workload asks for it. In day-to-day terms that means many applications, browser windows, spreadsheets and video calls can run side by side without the machine slowing to a crawl. It is a sensible step up for people who have outgrown a basic office desktop but still want a compact system on the desk.
Integrated graphics for up to three monitors
This build uses the graphics built into the processor rather than a separate graphics card, which keeps the system small and efficient. The motherboard provides one HDMI 2.1, two DisplayPort 1.2 and one D-Sub (VGA) video output, and up to three monitors are supported, so a multi-screen office desk is straightforward. Integrated graphics suit office, business, education and light media work. They are not intended for 3D rendering or other GPU-heavy applications, which call for a PC with a dedicated graphics card.
Memory and NVMe storage
The default build has 16GB of DDR4 3200MHz memory fitted as two 8GB modules in dual channel. The H610 motherboard has two memory slots, both used in this configuration, with a maximum of 64GB supported, so a later memory upgrade means replacing the modules. The 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD holds Windows 11 and your applications and files. The SSD is rated for PCIe 4.0, but the M.2 slot on this motherboard runs at PCIe 3.0 x4, so in this system the drive runs at PCIe 3.0 speeds, in the region of 3,500MB/s at best. That is still quick enough for fast start-up, rapid application loading and large file transfers. The board also has four SATA 6Gb/s ports for additional drives.
Compact case, low-profile cooling and Platinum power
The In Win CJ708 8L is a small form factor, solid steel chassis finished in black, built around a Micro-ATX motherboard. The processor is cooled by a Thermalright AXP90-X47 low-profile air cooler, only 47mm tall and rated for 160W, which is why it fits comfortably inside such a slim case. Power comes from an In Win 350W 80 Plus Platinum Flex ATX PSU, a high-efficiency unit that suits a low-power desktop. The system is air-cooled throughout, with no liquid cooling to maintain.
Connectivity and ports
At the back there are two Type-A 5Gbps USB ports, four USB 2.0 ports and a 1GbE Realtek Ethernet port. At the front you get two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports and a headphone and microphone combo jack, giving ten USB ports in total for keyboards, headsets, scanners, card readers and storage. Wireless is supplied by a dual-band 1200Mbps Wi-Fi 5 PCIe card with Bluetooth 4.0, rather than being built into the motherboard, and audio is Realtek 7.1 HD Audio. No keyboard or mouse is included.
Ideal for
- Home offices that run many applications and browser windows at once
- Small businesses and professional environments that need a compact, dependable desktop
- Schools, colleges and students who want performance without a large tower
- Multi-monitor desks of up to three screens
- Reception desks, shared workspaces and shelves where space is limited
The Punch SlimStation i7-12700 Workstation is a well-balanced i7-12700 small form factor workstation. It has a 12 core processor, 16GB of memory, a 1TB NVMe SSD and a full set of video and USB connections, all inside an 8 litre chassis. What is the Punch SlimStation i7-12700 Workstation best for?
The Punch SlimStation i7-12700 Workstation is primarily a multitasking desktop for office, business and education work in a small space. The 12 core processor keeps many applications, browser windows and video calls running together, and the integrated graphics drive up to three monitors. It is not aimed at graphics-heavy work such as 3D rendering, where a PC with a dedicated graphics card is the better choice.
Typical jobs include office suites, email, spreadsheets, accounting and customer records software, browser-based business tools, video conferencing and PDF handling spread across two or three screens. In education it suits classroom, library and student desks, and the small case suits reception desks and shared workspaces. Occasional media editing is within reach of the 12 core processor, though the integrated graphics set the ceiling for how demanding it can be.
Where does the Punch SlimStation i7-12700 Workstation sit in the range?
Below it, the Stealth R Gaming PC and the Steel Gaming PC both use a 6 core AMD Ryzen 5 5500 with a dedicated graphics card, so they suit graphics-led use. The SlimStation instead puts its budget into a 12 core processor in a much smaller case. Above it, the 27″ 12th Gen Core i5 High Performance All in One PC WiFi builds the screen into the PC around a 6 core Intel Core i5-12400, and the Warrior X Gaming PC pairs a 6 core Intel Core i5-12400F with a dedicated graphics card. Choose the SlimStation when processor cores and a small footprint matter more than an integrated screen or a graphics card.
Frequently Asked Questions
What software can the Punch SlimStation i7-12700 run?
It runs everyday business and office software under Windows 11 Home, including office suites, email, spreadsheets, accounting and customer records packages, web browsers with many tabs open, video conferencing and PDF tools. The 12 core, 20 thread Intel Core i7-12700 and 16GB of DDR4 memory leave plenty of headroom for several of these at once, and the 1TB NVMe SSD keeps files and applications quick to open. Because the graphics are integrated rather than a dedicated card, it is not suited to 3D rendering or other GPU-heavy applications.
Can the SlimStation i7-12700 run three monitors?
Yes, the integrated graphics support up to three monitors at once. The motherboard provides one HDMI 2.1, two DisplayPort 1.2 and one D-Sub (VGA) video output, so newer and older screens can be mixed on the same desk.
How big is the SlimStation i7-12700 and where will it fit?
The In Win CJ708 8L chassis measures 305mm deep, 95mm wide and 290mm high, which is 30.5 x 9.5 x 29.0cm. That is slim enough for a shelf, the side of a desk or a tight reception area.
Can I upgrade the SlimStation i7-12700 later?
Yes, within the limits of a small case. Both memory slots are used by the 2 x 8GB kit, so more memory means replacing the modules, up to a maximum of 64GB, and the single M.2 slot is taken by the 1TB SSD. The board has four SATA 6Gb/s ports for extra drives, and expansion cards go in its PCIe 4.0 x16 and PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, with the case taking low-profile cards. You are free to fit your own upgrades later. The warranty still covers the parts we supplied, but damage caused by an upgrade is not covered.
Who is this PC best suited for?
The SlimStation i7-12700 is best suited to home office workers, small businesses, schools and students who need a powerful, space-saving desktop for multitasking and multi-monitor productivity. It is a good fit wherever a 12 core processor matters more than a large case. If your work depends on a dedicated graphics card, look at one of the PCs with discrete graphics in the range instead.
Does the SlimStation i7-12700 have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?
Yes, it includes a dual-band 1200Mbps Wi-Fi 5 card with Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless keyboards, mice and headphones. It is a PCIe card rather than a feature of the motherboard. Wired networking is 1GbE through a Realtek Ethernet port. No keyboard or mouse is included, so add them from our accessories pages.
