I bought this PC about 2 months ago, having done a lot of research on the various PC’s for sale. I was looking for a PC which could be used for both gaming and for software development work, and which I could upgrade gradually over the next few years. Note that by gaming, I do not mean playing the latest action games at 60 fps and above, but rather gaming up to 60 fps and turn based strategy games.

I chose this PC, as it seemed to fit the above requirements and had sufficient expansion capability.

The case is a Kolink Aviator V, and other reviews describe this as a top end budget case with good expansion. It has a Perspex side held in place with 4 thumbscrews, and removal gives good access to the component and drive bay side of the case. The other side is metal which is held in place with Philips screws, and on removal gives good access to the wiring loom. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2HL, and is a good gaming motherboard supporting an Intel I7 7700 cpu with 16Mb of Corsair DDR4 2133 MHz memory. Note that I selected the I7 7700 as it offers the best value, with other Intel cpu’s only offering marginal speed improvements at much higher prices. The graphics card is a NVidia GTX 1060 with 3Gb, and gives good gaming performance. The power supply is a 500 W Kolink unit which sits at the bottom rear of the case. The case has two front fans and one rear fan, which are very quiet. It comes with Windows 10 Home, which registered with Microsoft with no issues. Storage is a WD Blue 1 Tb drive with a spin speed of 7200 rpm. This offers good value with reasonable performance.

Since my purchase, I have undertaken two upgrades. The first was the addition of a DVD drive, a ASUS DRW-24F1MT unit which I purchased from Amazon. You can see my review of this unit on the corresponding Amazon page, suffice to say it was fairly easy to install in one of the drive bays in the PC.

The second upgrade was the addition of a second WD Blue 1Tb drive (storage space for software development). Again this was easy to install, and both upgrades cost me a total of less than £50 including all required cables. Note that the cable layout in the PC is both neatly installed, and has clear labelling for any expansion required. The power requirements including the upgrades is around 380 W, so still well within the limits of the installed 500 W unit.

The PC has performed as expected for the first two months, and I have found no real issues to date. The overall appearance is good, and the top of the case has 2 USB 3, and one USB 2 connections, along with the usual headphone and other sockets. The case also has slots for memory cards on the top, and switches for fan controls.

I have no real performance figures for the PC, but I have compared the build time of a complex commercial application on this and a PC with i7 7740 cpu, and 32Mb of memory. This latter PC cost almost £400 more than this PC, and only managed to outperform it by about 10%.

I am very happy with this PC, and had only one instance where I had to contact the seller (Punch Technology) to ask a technical question. They replied to my question within about 10 minutes, and even sent me a connector which I fully expected to pay for, but was at no cost to myself. I am now considering another purchase in the next 2 months, and cannot imagine looking elsewhere for this purchase.
